Recently we hiked along the <a href="http://www.everytrail.com/guide/mt-rose-lake-tahoe">Mt. Rose Loop Trail</a>, near Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, NV.<br />
It was a stunning trail with some phenomenal vistas of the Tahoe area. Despite its length, 5-6 miles round trip, and elevation (8900ft +), we saw many families with children on this trail. It was early August, and everywhere you looked there were wildflowers in bloom.<br />

The waterfall was flowing pretty nicely for early August. We could have turned to the left here to get to an access road or turned around. Most people turn around here unless they plan on making the full 10 mile hike up to Mt. Rose.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is the slightly longer loop. We didn't continue on up the mountain, but looped around above the waterfall and near the creek that fed it. If you look at the <a href="http://www.everytrail.com/guide/mt-rose-lake-tahoe">EveryTrail</a>, we went from point 4 to point 8. <br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The faerie society on Atazia is self governed and has evolved over the years. Below is a look at some of the posts.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Maedera and </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Derarch</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">These two positions work together to provide </span><span style="line-height: 115%;">wisdom and guidance and act as judges. When necessary, they mobilize the community and make decisions as their rulers.</span></span><br />
<span style="line-height: 17px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The <span style="line-height: 17px;">maedera is always female and the derarch, male. They are chosen for life.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 17px;"><br /></span></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Vedhrik</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This role evolved into the Maedera and Derarch. The faerie in this position functions as the King or Queen of the faeries. Their power is limited as a new one is chosen annually by consensus.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Dhrik</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A messenger or enforcer for the Vedhrik, Maedera or Derarch. Loyal and able to handle themselves in a fight.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Alleri</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A dhrik sometimes needs assistance, and has a couple of trusted friends available at all times for backup.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Pryderan</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Chosen annually, they function as advisors to the Maedera and Derarch in all matters. </span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Similar to a congressman, Pryderans propose and argue over rules.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Any faerie can declare interest at the selection. The five with the most support are made into a Pryderan. Ever since each faction started choosing one faerie to support ahead of time, the selection has become a formality. Only five declare interest and all are made Pryderan.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /></span>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Pryderi</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Not a post per se. The pryderi is the name of the collection of Pryderans. Similar to a congress.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Deran</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is a temporary role, given to faeries that have announced they wish to join the selection for Maedera, Derarch or Pryderan.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ascendant</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Self appointed for life, absolute dictator.</span></div>
</div>

As years passed, they chose names for themselves.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Inviernens</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Inviernens live at the top of the mountain the glacier. Generally very strong fliers due to living with the high winds on daily basis. Most get their magic from both water and the moon. The Matriarch Chandra hails from the Inviernens. From their vantage point, they see all of Atazia and favor none of it, though are often disconnected from daily events.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Solarans</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Solaran's live among the rocks and sand where there is no shade and above high tide. They get their magic from the sun. They are able to focus sunlight like a magnifying glass enough to make glass. Solaran's are often direct, their offensive magic is very versatile, light, fire and life. They often forget the advantages others can provide.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Delalbero</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Delalbero live in the forest clustered on the southern slope of the mountain. They get most of their magic from a tree or trees and a small amount from the sun. Until recently, they were large enough to choose two Pryderan's simultaneously. When a large group split off to form the Veneficus, the formerly tranquil Delalbero became angry and bitter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Veneficus</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The newest group, they split from the Delalbero over subtle differences in their magic. While most is the same, growth, they get it from fungal farms. Instead of the sun, they shape their plants with magic from the earth. The split was not amicable and a number of Veneficus were very resentful of all faeries on Atazia.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Fiorens</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The relaxed Fiorens at the bottom of the mountain hold the most gatherings. Their gardens give them mastery of beauty, and what is the value of beauty if you can't share it? They have little physical control over the island and try to make up for it by making allies with all other groups.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Maresonne</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This group has been devastated by the Gorrock. Formerly in control of all weather from their mastery of the surrounding seas, they now reside in a small pond in the meadow. Most of the survivors have left to live in other parts of the island and joined other groups.</span><br />
